Artist Description

A young woman, her eyes closed and face slightly toward the viewer, is semi-reclined under a multi-striped blanket beneath a cloudy sky. The striped blanket is based on the colors of a hand-died, hand-loomed Guatemalan shawl from a women’s cooperative.

My work explores the evolving relationship among color, form, and perceptions of landscape and a cloth-covered human figure. In the three pieces submitted, I have returned to showing features of the human figure after years of focusing on the figure hidden totally underneath a striped blanket. This is the second in this series.
