I have painted a series of paintings for years, that are influenced by my interest in Native American Culture.

This painting depicts various phases of the moon.  The moon was a luminous guardian spirit, and a watchful eye in the night sky that marked the passage of time.  Each tribe had it structure to the lunar calendar, reflecting the moon phases and the seasonal shifts.  Their livelihood and daily activities were influenced by the moon and the sun… They used lunar calendars, with names for each full moon, to track time and seasons.  These names were often tied to natural events like animal behaviour or plant cycles, which provided a framework for cultural practices, agriculture, and ceremonies.  One example: the Strawberry Moon in June marked the time of ripening berries.  Many tribes followed a 13 moon calendar, with each moon representing a 28 day cycle corresponding to a specific time of year.  This painting  may represent a glyph found on one of the walls of the Cliff Dwellers.
