Walk in the Park

Amy Stewart

Acrylics are used on birch panel in an intuitive, physical
process—applying pigment in bold strokes, then vigorously scratching, sanding,
and removing it. Each layer affects the next—adjusted for transparency,
revealing glimpses of what came before, while shaping what follows. The result
is a dynamic interplay of color and form, where textured paths intersect like
fleeting moments.

Walk in the Park is a vibrant reflection of joy,
movement, and connection to place. Inspired by time spent in Charleston’s Park
Circle and Waterfront Park, this piece translates the energy and peace of those
spaces into bold color, layered texture, and geometric rhythm. The dynamic
central figure—suggestive of a person mid-step or mid-dance—is rendered through
intersecting lines and swirling forms, radiating a playful, almost musical
quality.

The abstracted background hints at land, water, and sky,
echoing the natural elements of the parks while also inviting personal
interpretation. The overlapping circular motifs and bright palette evoke the
layered experience of memory and presence. With each mark and color shift, Walk
in the Park
invites the viewer to slow down, to move with the painting, and
to rediscover the beauty of simple, joyful moments in familiar places.
