Painting Process: Drawn In

Drawn In emerged during a live worship session, its abstract landscape lines capturing the spontaneity of the moment. Water-soluble graphite pencils established movement, followed by layered acrylic paint sticks that built texture and color. Large brushes and water softened edges, creating a moody atmosphere. Ribbed and sharp knives scraped through layers, revealing hidden “peekaboo” hues beneath. In the studio, final touches brought balance—carefully placed pink splotches offered gentle contrast to the expressive energy. A clear varnish sealed the piece, preserving both its raw immediacy and the quiet invitation woven into its layered surface.

Drawn In was created live on a Sunday morning, in the midst of passionate praise to Jesus. Painted as worship, it holds the tension between clarity and mystery—echoing in the gates we enter with thanksgiving and praise. Each bold, rhythmic gesture reflects freedom and movement, revealing hidden beauty beneath the surface. The work invites viewers to slow down, look deeper, and respond to the call of divine presence.
