Daydreaming

Acrylic, oil and coldwax on cradled birch wood, framed

This is a purely non-representational abstract expression of a feeling of lightness, and dream state.  I was asked to do an Artist in Residence at Hagan Fine Art in 2024 and this was one of the paintings that transpired.  In this piece, my intent was to be as spontaneous  and create a dialogue as I made marks and shapes.  I typically view my expressionist paintings as a conversation between parts. One mark or shape or color informs the next mark, shape color; much like improvisational jazz. Colors start out quite randomly and as each layer of paint goes on the more organized the painting becomes.  In the end once an overall undertone of calmness starts to show, the “notes” become more intentional, more deliberate.
