I have enjoyed researching my ancestors over the years, and wonder about their quests for survival and a space to settle in a new continent is invoked when I walk through forests and woods. Some did settle near Spartanburg in the 1700s. This image was taken at Cades Cove, Tennessee in the Smoky Mountains, a historical area originally inhabited by Cherokee, later by European traders, and invokes thoughts of what life of forging new trails while navigating natural dangers, threats, and opportunities might have been like. The use of double exposure and cyanotype medium give a feeling of another time.
A Place Along the Journey
