Insurrection is defined as a violent uprising or revolt against an established government or authority. Let us call it what it is and although I struggled with the name but that is where my mind was focused when creating this piece. I learned while working in a mental health facility for adults with mental illness for 30 yrs., that what a person perceives is often what they believe to be true. The Insurrectionist that invaded our capital on January 6th, 2021, believed that they were saving our country from a fake election. Whether that was a true premise to act upon is still a question to some, but they were later pardoned and released by our now president. The energy of individual’s moving down to the capital and up the staircases into the capital was a sight reminiscent to old battlefield paintings I have observed of soldiers holding long spears aloft clashing man to man i.e.. ”The battle of Agincourt” by Brian Palmer completed on Oct. 25th, 1415, is one of many such paintings. The viewer is to observe and wonder at motivations and overall social implications of the actions of a mob’s combined energy and mindset to cause mayhem.
