I spent the summer I came of age fleeing wildfires and cutting down juniper trees. I’ve spent every summer since trying to prove to myself that I’m not afraid of hard work. The world I learned at 18 was scorched by mismanagement. It required blood and sweat and shattered plans. That world was also full of prayer and music. In the age of change, don’t we all worship at the altar of flame?
