I’ve wanted to paint this heron for some time, using a photo
my mother took. I repurposed a plein air painting of a live oak by turning it
sideways, removing elements, and adding the heron. Capturing the textures of
feathers, greenery, Spanish moss and its reflections made this piece especially challenging.
