What would the world look like without honeybees?

This piece reflects a dark empty world brought back to life with colorful honeybees.

Charcoal was used to create dark dying forest. Charcoal was also used for the earth because of its resemblance to ash and dry dirt and plants. Ink was used for the dilapidated beehive because man made structures, like ink, are permanent even if they sit for years without care some part of their presence remains. The lonely beehive is waiting for a new colony to bring it back to life. Colored pencils were used for the lavender and honeybees because of their vibrancy. Honeybees are doing their job pollinating the lavender which will bring the world back to life. Collage was used to emphasize the importance of pollinators for giving and sustaining life.

I wanted the honeybees to be the main focus of this piece so I chose lavender because of its softness and how it settles into the background without being completely lost in the grey. The purple lavender is also the complement to the bright yellow honeybees which helps bring the focus to them.5

This is the second piece in my collection “Desolation Without Pollination.”
