In my self-directed studies about watercolor painting, I have come across this statement many, many times: ” Just let the watercolor paint itself!”. So in this piece I am trying to do just that. Instead of using traditional paper and methods for watercolor, I created this wrinkled, gnarled substrate and let some color flow onto and into the paper/tissue/wrinkled surface. As it ran around the lumps and bumps it began to emerge as a tangled forest……at least to me, and so I developed that theme. When I take the time to just stare at the painting, I am taken back to my childhood, just before the snows fell, the days were short, and the air was cold and breezy.
