This painting began as a painting study done from a life model . The straw hat and kneeling pose made her appear to be gardening. The model wore a chartreuse dress with violet details which was sublime. The studio painting was started on the Spring Equinox, a special day of the year for me. I had been thinking about “vessels” and the various meanings of the word, my crocus were blooming and I had been tending the memorial garden in my yard where my parent’s ashes are buried. I was also thinking about the series I began last year titled “Natures Patina” which delves into the effects of the elements of nature and how they affect the world around us. I had recently received more of an education of the human heart than I wanted , as my husband’s heart disease became critical…more vessels, more decay, more crocus blooming in my garden than last year! I continued to paint intuitively until the piece spoke to me and I was able to refine and call it finished. It can be summed up by the quote “Hope Springs Eternal”

This painting began as an intuitive abstract underpainting with collage and mark making.I used acrylic paints and mediums as well as charcoal, inks and markers. I also included the rust activated metallic paint I have been experimenting with.
