My work is inspired by time spent outdoors running, hiking, and birding, and the sense of “otherworldliness” or magic we are sometimes privy to experience in the direct vicinity of our own tangible surroundings. Featuring dreamlike depictions of landscapes, birds, and abstracted memories, these works are intended to evoke a sense of both familiarity and the surreal.
This piece pays tribute to a camping trip and trail running adventure at Mount Mitchell State Park. It depicts a yard near our campsite, studded with treasures and wild grasses. I am always attracted to these kinds of piles of debris compositionally, and aim to recreate their accumulated complexity in my work.
