“Prelude” is an encaustic wax painting utilizing pine
needles that came from a deconstructed bird’s nest. My elderly mother – knowing
that I frequently utilize bird’s nests in my 3-D works – started collecting abandoned
nests for me from her yard. This one, unfortunately, came apart as I was
working with it. To me, nests represent the beginning of new life (essentially
a “prelude”) and I wanted to continue honoring this nest – through a painting.
It is 11 inches high by 11 inches wide on a 1.5-inch wood board (depth).
