Growing up in a small rural South Carolina town you often heard the phrase “just down the road” in reference to where someone lived, or where you’ll find a landmark to make a turn to your destination. I no longer have immediate family ties to my hometown that would take me back. However, I live close enough to take a drive to my old stomping grounds and take the opportunity from time to time. This painting was inspired based on my sketches, photos and memories of my hometown.
When asked about this painting “Dale, where is this place?”, I respond, “Oh, you know, it’s just down the road”.
