As humans evolve, we become increasingly self-centered, immersed in our own algorithmic worlds. However, as this technological separation continues, our connection lies in the shared human experience. I revitalize this experience, prompting introspection into our identity, origins, and trajectory. In my latest work, I explore the relationship between the African Diaspora and colonial powers through soccer. While soccer is a global phenomenon, the prominence of European teams overshadows its deeper relationship to this success. When a black individual wears a football kit, they embody a complex connection often overlooked – a symbol of oppression intertwined with personal identity. Through watercolor paintings, I transform these symbols, infusing them with layers of symbolism and double entendre. This subliminal language invites reflection on centuries of history, challenging our perceptions of interpersonal relationships.
