This is artwork is a portrait of my son. The last few years have been extremely difficult for him. I placed a partial map of North Carolina and some lights he has hanging in his window. I took a screenshot of his face at a particularly sad moment (during a conversation) and was moved to create that despair he was feeling. The distortion of the camera’s exaggerated angles and playful lights inspire in me hope that help is on the way.
Help Is On the Way
Mary Cooper McDonough
The medium of collage allows me to create an alternate reality through my lens. A perceived reality that has both emotion and substance; concentrated on the desire for the viewer to see blocks of color and abstracted shapes and textures. Memories and materials, past and present, influence design decision making. I’m fascinated with color showing through and around cut paper, rice paper and other collage materials.
