What would the world look like without pollinators?

This piece reflects a dark empty world brought back to life with colorful pollinators.

Charcoal was used to create a sky waiting for a storm that never comes. Charcoal was also used for the earth because of its resemblance to ash and dry dirt and plants. Ink was used for the dilapidated farm house because man made structures, like ink, are permanent even if they sit for years without care some part of their presence remains. Colored pencils were used for the flowers and pollinators because of their vibrancy. The pollinators are bringing the flowers back to life which then bring the world back to life. Collage was used to emphasize the importance of pollinators for giving and sustaining life.

The finished piece reminds me of the first time I watched Wizard of Oz. As the black and white movie filled with color, awe and excitement filled my heart.

This is the first piece in my collection “Desolation Without Pollination.”
