I create collaged art quilts mostly from photos that seem to catch my eye or have a story to them. This particular photo was taken by someone else (with permission) and I thought it was so representative of the forest of birches in the fall. I love to recreate the beautiful oranges, reds, and yellows of the leaves.

My fabric collaged art quilts are designed with many small fabric pieces that have been adhered to a base fabric. It is then layered onto batting and a backing fabric at which point it is machine stitched in an all over pattern. The machine stitching allows me to not only hold the pieces in place but to thread paint adding highlights and shadows. The completed art quilt is stretched onto gallery canvas.
